Reimagining Writing Center Work through an Arts-Informed Lens: Conference Travel Award Winner Presentation In-Person

Join us in the Cornish Writing Center for a special presentation!

Jack Espinoza, Chai Lamberte, Ciel Richmond, Sarah Shutters, and Cornish Writing Center Director Liza Birnbaum will present a reprise of their panel discussion from the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing, held in Boise, Idaho, on October 16, 2026.

Their presentation examines how the environment of an arts-focused institution shapes the role and services of a writing center. Drawing on the center’s unique context within a small arts college recently acquired by a larger liberal arts university, they will discuss how they foster community through arts-informed consultation pedagogy, creativity-centered events, and a welcoming sense of whimsy.

The student presenters applied for and received funding to attend and present at the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing this fall through the library. Graduate and undergraduate students submitting conference presentation proposals are eligible to apply for funding to support research and conference travel. More information is available on the student funding webpage.
