Healing Through Arts Showcase In-Person

Location: Lemieux Library Sixth Floor

To culminate a month of education and advocacy, we invite you to help honor the stories and experiences of survivors on Monday, April 29 at the Lemieux Library. This event will feature a gallery of artwork created and submitted by members of the Seattle University community, selected readings by Stephanie Kuehnert from her newly released memoir, “Pieces of a Girl” (books available for purchase during the event), open-mic spoken word poetry and a movement for healing class facilitated by University Recreation instructors. The event will center and showcase artwork that expresses strength, resilience, healing for sexual and gender-based violence through creative expressions such as poetry, art, photography, visual media and more!
 

Schedule:

3:00 - 5:00 pm: Survivor Art Gallery Viewing & "Tell Your Story: Zine Workshop" (Join anytime from 3-5 to participate!)

5:30 - Readings from "Pieces of a Girl" by Stephanie Kuehnert 

6:30 - Open Mic Poetry

7:30 - Yoga for Healing led by University Recreation


Students, faculty, or staff who would like to contribute artwork to the event can express their interest here or attend the drop-in art hours hosted every Friday during April from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in Student Center Room 380 (Wellness and Health Promotion Office) where free art supplies (free t-shirts to contribute to the displayed Clothesline Project, canvases, clay, and other materials provided). Submissions may be anonymous if desired.  
 

Please Note: For the purposes of this event, any poetry or stories created or shared will not be considered disclosures to the university of harassment or violence. Meaning, university employees are NOT required to report to the University or the Title IX Coordinator regarding any details or stories shared. If you are interested in reporting to the university, you can contact Elizabeth Trayner, our Title IX Coordinator directly or you can learn more by going to seattleu.edu/get-help. Washington state law requires all university employees to contact Child Protective Services and/or law enforcement if they have reasonable cause to believe that a child or vulnerable adult has experienced abuse or neglect. This event does not exempt such disclosures from this requirement.
